Franey scores a pair as Nor'easters pitch another shutout

WENHAM, Mass. -- Junior Michaela Franey (York, Maine) scored two goals to help lead the University of New England to a 3-0 win over Gordon College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

The Nor'easters won for the third straight time to get to 7-2 overall, 4-1 in conference play. UNE has out-scored its opponents, 18-0, during the streak.

Franey fired home a pass from senior Anne Cowles (Franconia, N.H.) to give the visitors the lead at the 10:52 mark.

Senior Taryn Flagg (Livermore Falls, Maine) doubled the margin in the 18th minute, and Franey picked up her second goal of the game just over three minutes into the second half to complete the scoring.

UNE, which held a 19-9 cushion in shots for the game, received five saves from junior goalkeeper Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.).

The Fighting Scots (2-10, 1-3 TCCC), who host Western New England College Tuesday, got 13 saves from sophomore Alicia L'Heureux (Dudley, Mass.).

The Nor'easters are back in action the same day at UMaine Farmington for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
