Nor'easters improve to 7-2 by downing Gordon

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Led by seniors Ali Wagner (Monrovia, Calif.) and Erica Johnson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), the University of New England women's swim team powered its way past Gordon College, 164-72, Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

Wagner and Johnson each won a pair of races and were part of winning relay entries.  Wagner claimed victory in the 50-yard butterfly (28.95) and 100-yard butterfly (1:03.84), while Johnson offered first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (26.74) and the 100-yard free (59.34).  Each also swam a leg of the Nor'easters' winning 200-yard medley relay squad, teaming with first-year Lindsay Baldini (Hyannis, Mass.) and classmate Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.).

UNE first-year Allie Travnik (New Lenox, Ill.) won both backstroke events, recording a time of (32.70) in the 50 and (1:10.63) in the 100.

Seniors Kristen Groff and Christine Scanlon each won a race for the Fighting Scots.  Groff captured the 400-yard individual medley (4:56.33) and Scanlon was first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:41.14).

The Nor'easters (7-2) host rival Roger Williams University next Saturday at 1:00 p.m..  Gordon returns to action Wednesday at Regis College (7:00 p.m.).
