Ashley DePasquale's second homer of the season provided the offensive spark for the Nor'easters
Box Score
WENHAM, Mass. -- Ashley DePasquale '09 (Uxbridge, Mass.) hit a two-run home run in the second inning to help the University of New England Nor'easters to a 3-2 victory over the Salve Regina University Seahawks in an elimination game at The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.
Salve Regina got on the scoreboard first when Sarah Ramsey '09 (Muncie, Pa.) led off the game with a home run to left field.
DePasquale answered with a two-run shot the following inning, then the Nor'easters added what would prove to be a crucial insurance run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Lauren Webb '10 (Jericho, Vt.).
The Seahawks would cut their deficit in half in the top of the sixth, closing the gap to 3-2 on a run-scoring single by Sarah Jakiela '10 (Meriden, Conn.).
Winning pitcher Sarah Hamel '08 (Rochester, N.H.) stranded the tying and potential go-ahead runs on base in the seventh, inducing a groundout to end the contest. Hamel (13-7) scattered eight hits while walking two and striking out three.
Offensively, the Nor'easters managed six hits off Jakiela, the TCCC co-Pitcher of the Year. Six different players had one hit apiece.
