Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Jen Elwell '08 (Tewksbury, Mass.) threw a six-hit shutout as host Endicott College moved on in The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament with a 3-0 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters on Thursday afternoon.

The top-seeded Gulls (36-4)--ranked first in the region--will host third-seeded Western New England College in a winners' bracket game tomorrow.  The Nor'easters (23-13) will face Salve Regina University in an elimination game hosted by Gordon College (2:30 p.m.).

Endicott got on the scoreboard in the first when Jenna Lazar '10 (Milton, Mass.) reached on a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, then scored on a single by Danielle Sargent '08 (Sabattus, Maine).

The Gulls scored an unearned run in the third and added an insurance run in the home half of the sixth, courtesy of an RBI single by Sara Spaziano '11 (Norton, Mass.).

Elwell struck out the side in the seventh to put the finishing touches on her shutout.  She walked none and fanned eight to up her record to 13-3.

Hamel (12-7) gave the Nor'easters a solid performance against the Gulls' high-powered offense.  She surrendered six hits and two earned runs.

Should the Nor'easters win their game tomorrow versus Salve Regina, they would play the winner of Gordon College and Nichols College at 5:00 p.m.
