The Nor'easters failed to overcome NEC's six goals in the first quarter in a 12-5 setback

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The New England College Pilgrims scored half of their goals in the first period on their way to a 12-5 The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's lacrosse win over the University of New England in a match played at Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday afternoon.
After UNE's Steve Smith '11 (Walpole, Mass.) opened the scoring, the Pilgrims would notch four consecutive goals--two coming from Damian Carey--to establish a 4-1 lead less than 10 minutes into the match.
Matt Carr '10 (Standish, Maine) broke NEC's momentum with his second goal of the season, but the Pilgrims came right back with a pair of scores before the first-period horn for a 6-2 lead.
NEC would go on to outscore UNE 3-0 over the middle two quarters to lead 9-2 heading into the fourth frame. Mike Nawrocki '09 (Baldwin, Md.), Nick Wilson '11 (Souhegan, N.H.) and Chris McCauley '08 (Rehoboth, Mass.) each scored for the Nor'easters in the final period, but UNE's scoring output was matched by the winners.
Kyle Burke scored a match-high three goals to lead NEC (2-7, 2-3 TCCC). Matt Normandin and Carey finished with two apiece.
Andy Briggs '09 (Scituate, R.I.) made 11 saves for the Nor'easters (2-8, 0-5), who will host nationally-ranked Endicott College Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
