BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England Nor'easters got a strong pitching performance by Sarah Hamel '08 (Rochester, N.H.), and Caroline Engwer '10 (Wrentham, Mass.) knocked in the game's only run in the Nor'easters' 1-0 win over Endicott in game one of a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Claude Dubois Field.

The Gulls earned a split of the twinbill by rallying from a 3-1 deficit for a 7-3 victory in the second game.

UNE plated the lone run of the opener in the bottom of the fourth.  Lauren Webb '10 (Jericho, Vt.) led the inning off with a single to center field.  After a strikeout, Katie Morin '08 (Lewiston, Maine) stroked a single to right, moving Webb to second.  Engwer then followed with a base hit to center to score Webb.

Hamel scattered six hits in raising her record to 4-3.  She walked none and struck out five.  Offensively, Lisa Baillargeon '08 (Berlin, N.H.) had a pair of doubles.

Trailing 3-1 after three innings of game two, Endicott responded by plating four runs in the top of the fourth.  Jenna Lazar '10 (Milton, Mass.) had a two-run single to tie the score, then Rachel Pearson '08 (Gales Ferry, Conn.) gave the Gulls the lead with a run-scoring single.  Winning pitcher Maria Mangine '10 (Lockport, N.Y.) helped her own cause with a base knock to give Endicott a two-run cushion.

The Gulls would score single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to give themselves more breathing room.  Endicott won despite being outhit 11-8.  The Gulls took advantage of eight walks and five Nor'easter errors.

Mangine improved her unblemished record to 6-0.  She walked three and struck out four.  Lazar and Pearson had two hits apiece.

Baillargeon and Chelsea Cummings '08 (Oxford, Maine) each had three hits in the nightcap for the Nor'easters.  Baillargeon extended her hitting streak to 10 games, while Morin had a double to push her hit streak to seven.

Paula McGinn '08 (Lynn, Mass.) reached base a total of six times on the day for the Gulls (14-3, 6-2 TCCC), who return to play tomorrow with a home doubleheader versus New England College.

UNE's win in game one was its first over Endicott, the reigning five-time TCCC champion, since April 26, 2001--a span of 14 games.  The Nor'easters (7-7, 4-4) are idle until Thursday when they host Thomas College for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
