BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Katie Morin '08 (Lewiston, Maine) had four hits and five runs batted in to lead the University of New England to a 6-4, 11-5 doubleheader sweep of New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference softball action Friday afternoon at Claude Dubois Field.

The Nor'easters won for the 12th time in their last 14 games to improve to 21-11 overall and 16-6 in conference play.  The Pilgrims now stand at 9-23, 7-15 in TCCC games.

With the score tied 2-2 after three innings of the opener, the Nor'easters would take the lead for good in the home half of the fourth.  Morin led off with a double to left-center and scored when Sarah Hamel '08 (Rochester, N.H.) followed with a single.  UNE added a pair of insurance runs an inning later when Hamel delivered a two-run base hit.

Hamel (12-5) allowed seven hits and three earned runs to pick up the win.  She walked four and struck out eight.

Morin, Lisa Baillargeon '08 (Berlin, N.H.) and Megan Gaedje '09 (Tolland, Conn.) had three hits apiece to fuel UNE's 13-hit offense.

The Nor'easters would lead from start-to-finish in the nightcap.  Gaedje got the Nor'easter offense cranked up in the first inning, blasting a three-run homer for his first career round-tripper.

UNE would score single runs in the second and third to establish a 5-1 lead, but NEC plated a pair in the top of the fourth to close within two (5-3).  The hosts salted the game away with three runs in both the fourth and fifth frames.

Jess Silvio '09 (Beverly, Mass.) worked the first four innings to pick up the win, upping her record to 2-1.  Amber Zablowsky '11 (Rochester, Mass.) came on for the final three innings and earned her first save.

Offensively, Morin had a three-run homer and scored a pair of runs.  Hamel and Julie Monteiro '10 (Portsmouth, R.I.) were both repeat hitters.

Jessica Chisholm '09 (Stoughton, Mass.) had three hits, including two doubles, on the day for the Pilgrims.  Bethany Forshaw '11 (Waterford, Conn.) knocked in a pair of runs in game one, and Amanda Lester '08 (Columbia, Conn.) ripped a solo homer and scored twice in the nightcap.

The Nor'easters will conclude their regular season tomorrow when they head to Bristol. R.I. to take on Roger Williams University for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.  NEC hosts Nichols College in a TCCC twinbill starting at 1:00 p.m.
