STANDISH, Maine -- Behind a career-high five goals from Chad DeLuca '11 (Mashpee, Mass.), the University of New England Nor'easters put a halt to their eight-game losing streak with a 22-3 non-conference victory over the Saint Joseph's College Monks on Tuesday afternooon.
UNE (3-11) would put the match away, early scoring eight times in the opening 10 minutes. DeLuca tallied four consecutive goals to help the Nor'easters establish a 10-0 first period cushion.
The visitors would go on to build a 15-0 halftime lead, and led 20-1 after three quarters. Their 22-goal output was the program's highest total in more than 10 seasons.
Jon Ebert '08 (Auburn, N.H.) chipped in with a career-best four goals to go with a pair of assists. Steven Beem '10 (Barre, Vt.), Chris McCauley '08 (Rehoboth, Mass.), Eric Santos '09 (Jamestown, R.I.) and Luke DiFiore '11 (Gloucester, Mass.) each scored twice. Long-stick midfielder Mike Sagaert '10 (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scooped up a match-high 10 ground balls.
Goalies Andy Briggs '09 (Scituate, R.I.) and Charlie Taylor '11 (York, Maine) combined to make nine saves for the Nor'easters, who play a road game at the University of Southern Maine on Thursday (4:00 p.m.)
Ryan Prescott '09 (Pittsfield, Mass.) had two scores for St. Joe's (1-8).
