BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Lisa Baillargeon '08 (Berlin, N.H.) and Katie Morin '08 (Lewiston, Maine) had three hits apiece to help lead a 15-hit attack as the University of New England Nor'easters earned a split with 12-6 win over Gordon College in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Claude Dubois Field.
The Fighting Scots broke a 1-all tie with three runs in the top of the seventh to win game one of The Commonwealth Coast Conference twinbill.
UNE got off to a quick start in the nightcap, scoring eight times in the home half of the second. The Nor'easters pounded out eight hits in the frame, including run-scoring safeties by Baillargeon, Morin, Julie Monteiro '10 (Portsmouth, R.I.), Caroline Engwer '10 (Wrentham, Mass.), and Megan Gaedje '09 (Tolland, Conn.).
After Gordon scored three times in both the fourth and top of the sixth to close within three (9-6), the Nor'easters registered three runs in the sixth to put the game away.
Gaedje and Jennifer Waldecker '10 (Hookset, N.H.) each had a pair of RBI in game two. Rookie pitcher Amber Zablowsky '11 (Rochester, Mass.) upped her record to 3-1 by allowing three earned runs and striking out four.
Gordon snapped a seven-game losing streak with its victory in game one. With the scored tied in the top of the seventh, Cindy Hill '08 (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) got the rally started with a one-out double to right-center and later moved to third on a wild pitch. After a walk to Janelle Brink '11 (Lee, N.H.), Lauren Granat '09 (Long Valley, N.J.) was credited with a sacrifice fly when her wind-blown fly ball to left was dropped, scoring Hill. The Fighting Scots pushed across two insurance runs on another UNE error.
Granat earned the win in the circle. She allowed five hits and no earned runs while striking out four. Offensively, Hill finished with a pair of hits.
Kristen Terry '11 (Chalfont, Pa.) had two hits and three RBI in the second game for Gordon (2-12, 1-3 TCCC), which is scheduled to play a TCCC doubleheader at New England College on Friday.
The Nor'easters (5-5, 3-3) host the University of New England in a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
