Barker, MacDonald fuel UNE's 23-11 win over Salve

The Nor'easters reel off eight consecutive goals in the first half to pull away

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Amanda Barker '09 (Gloucester, Mass.) and Ashley MacDonald '08 (Billerica, Mass.) each scored seven goals to lead the University of New England Nor'easters women's lacrosse team to a 23-11 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over the Salve Regina University Seahawks Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Nor'easters improve to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in TCCC play.  The Seahawks drop to 5-9, 2-5 in conference play.

Trailing 4-3 with 10:09 elapsed, the Nor'easters would score eight straight times to take control.  MacDonald had three goals during the outburst, and Kate McCarter '11 (Bellingham, Mass.) added a pair.  The Nor'easters would go on to lead 13-5 at intermission.

The Nor'easters would outscore the Seahawks 6-2 over the initial 14:40 of the second frame to take a commanding 19-7 advantage.

McCarter and Mallory Long '10 (Lewiston, Maine) finished with three goals apiece for the Nor'easters, who held a 49-26 advantage in shots.  Goalie Jackie Price '10 (Billerica, Mass.) turned away 12 Seahawk attempts on goal to pick up the win.

Sarah Baker '10 (Summit, N.J.) registered a team-high four goals for Salve Regina.  Nicole Fecteau '09 (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Brittany Marino '09 (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) each scored three times.  Bridget McCaughey '11 (Albany, N.Y.) made 11 saves.

The Nor'easters will look to add another conference win to their total Saturday when they host Colby-Sawyer College at 1:00 p.m.  The Seahawks will entertain Western New England College that same afternoon (1:00 p.m.).
