BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kellie Cunningham '11 (Derry, N.H.) scored a match-high five goals, and the Endicott College Gulls forged a 10-3 first-half advantage on their way to a 17-10 The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse victory over the University of New England Saturday afternoon.
Endicott (6-0 TCCC) won for the fourth time in its last five games to run its record to 9-4. UNE drops to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in TCCC action.
After the two teams exchanged goals at the outset, the Gulls would score five straight times to establish a 6-1 lead. Five different players notched goals during the spurt, which was capped by a Hannah Pelletier '09 (Kennebunk, Maine) tally with 14:51 elapsed.
#Sam Robinson# '08 (Loudon, N.H.) and #Mallory Long# '10 (Lewiston, Maine) scored consecutive goals for UNE, but Endicott would answer with four straight goals--a pair by Valerie Feldman '10 (Albany, N.Y.)--to take a 10-3 lead into intermission.
The Nor'easters would score five of the first six goals of the second half to get within three (11-8) before Cunningham went to work, scoring three goals during an eight-minute stretch to help the Gulls take a 15-9 advantage and effectively put the game out of reach.
Feldman finished with three goals, while Sara Gunter '09 (Kennebunk, Maine) contributed five points with a pair of goals and three assists. Starting goalie Molly Hamel '09 (North Yarmouth, Maine) recorded nine saves in 48:37 of playing time to earn the victory.
Robinson paced the Nor'easters with two goals and a career-high four assists. #Ashley MacDonald# '08 (Billerica, Mass.) pitched in with a pair of scores and set up two others. Nor'easter goalie #Tara Geraghty# '11 (Barrington, R.I.) was busy all afternoon. She stopped a career-high 24 shots.
Endicott will play a non-league game Monday at Williams College (4;15 p.m.). The Nor'easters return to action Wednesday when they host TCCC rival Salve Regina University at 6:00 p.m.
