MILTON, Mass. -- The Curry College Colonels used a 12-hit attack and took advantage of seven base on balls on their way to a 9-3 victory to sweep a The Commonwealth Coast Conference softball doubleheader from the University of New England Sunday afternoon at D. Forbes Field.
The Colonels rode the four-hit pitching of Katie O'Neill '09 (Braintree, Mass.) to take a 2-1 win in the opener.
Trailing 3-2 in the nightcap, Curry (6-7, 2-2 TCCC) would respond with a six-run bottom of the fifth to take control. Kristen Jackman '09 (Stoughton, Mass.) had a two-run double, and Jessica Coyle '09 (Weymouth, Mass.) and Stacy Berard '08 (Bridgewater, Mass.) added RBI singles.
Jackman finished with three hits, while winning pitcher Amanda Peters '11 (East Bridgewater, Mass.) had two and knocked in a pair. In the circle Peters allowed six hits and struck out three.
Game one saw Curry score two runs in the bottom of the third to overcome a 1-0 deficit. Lauren Tobey '09 (Lynn, Mass.) and Christina Sancinito '09 (Wakefield, Mass.) plated the runs with RBI singles. O'Neill surrendered no earned runs in upping her record to 4-2.
For the Nor'easters, Lisa Baillargeon '08 (Berlin, N.H.) had two hits in game one. Julie Monteiro '10 (Portsmouth, R.I.) drove in the team's lone run with a groundout in the top of the second. Megan Gaedje '09 (Tolland, Conn.) was a repeat hitter in the nightcap.
UNE (4-4, 2-2) is scheduled to play its home-opener Tuesday (April 1) when Gordon College comes to Biddeford for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
