Ashley MacDonald scored all of UNE's goals in a 16-3 non-conference loss to Bates

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Midfielder Avery Pierce '10 (Weston, Mass.) scored a match-high four goals as the Bates College Bobcats defeated the University of New England Nor'easters, 16-3, in a non-conference women's lacrosse match played Thursday afternoon.
The victory improves the Bobcats' record to 2-3, while the Nor'easters slip to 2-5. Bates extended its unblemished all-time record versus UNE to 6-0.
Molly Radis '10 (Portland, Maine) would help get Bates off to a quick start by scoring the opening two goals of the match, then assisting on another to help the visitors to a 4-0 lead 11:04 in.
Pierce and Morgan Maciewicz '10 (Marblehead, Mass.) then scored back-to-back to make the score 6-0 before Ashley MacDonald '08 (Billerica, Mass.) got the Nor'easters on the board at 18:16.
The Bobcats would go into halftime with an 8-2 advantage after leading in shots (17-10) and ground balls (20-12).
Bates would hold UNE scoreless nearly the entire second half before yielding a goal with 2:05 on the clock. Pierce, Maciewicz and Molly Wagner '08 (Longmeadow, Mass.) each tallied a pair of second-half goals for the winners.
Pierce was credited with a match-high seven ground balls to go along with her four goals. Radis finished with three goals and two assists, while Maciewicz added a hat-trick. Goaltender Mara Krueger '11 (St. Louis, Mo.) stopped eight shots to pick up the victory.
MacDonald had all three of UNE's goals. Tara Geraghty '11 (Barrington, R.I.) made seven saves between the pipes.
The Bobcats return to the field Saturday (March 29) when they host Williams College in a NESCAC match starting at noon. UNE heads to Curry College that same day for a conference match commencing at 12:00 p.m.
