Hawks fly away in second half for 21-7 victory

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The Roger Williams University Hawks outscored the University of New England Nor'easters 11-2 in the second half on their way to a 21-7 The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse victory Tuesday afternoon.

Midfielder Claire Halliday '11 (Trenton, N.J.) scored six goals to pace the Hawks, who improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.  Kary Rodgers '08 (Brookfield, Conn.) chipped in with four goals, while Libby Stout '09 (Concord, Mass.) added three.

The Hawks jumped out early, tallying the first three goals of the match to stake themselves to a 3-0 lead five minutes in.  The Nor'easters would score four of the next six goals to close to within one (5-4), but Roger Williams responded by scoring four consecutive goals--and six of the next seven--to take an 11-5 advantage into halftime.

For the match the winners held a superior margin in shots (41-26) and ground balls (38-24) while committing 10 fewer turnovers (33-23).

Amanda Barker '09 (Gloucester, Mass.) was the lone repeat scorer for UNE with two goals.  Mallory Long '10 (Lewiston, Maine) had one goal and one assist, and Kaitlyn Hall '09 (West Lebanon, N.H.) dished out a pair of assists.

UNE starting goalie Jackie Price '10 (Billerica, Mass.) had 10 saves in 45:19 of playing time.  Tara Geraghty '11 (Barrington, R.I.) came off the bench to register five stops in 14:41 of action.

The Nor'easters will look to halt their two-game losing streak Thursday when they host Bates College at 4:30 p.m.
