PORTLAND, Maine -- Kaitlyn Hall '09 (West Lebanon, N.H.) and Ashley MacDonald '08 (Billerica, Mass.) each scored five goals to lead the University of New England to a 22-5 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Saint Joseph's College on Tuesday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

 

The win squares the Nor'easters' record at 2-2, while the Monks suffer a setback in their first-ever varsity contest.

 

The Nor'easters were able to put the contest out of reach early, scoring six times in the opening 10 minutes.  Hall and Mallory Long '10 (Lewiston, Maine) each had a pair of goals to fuel the run. 

 

After Alyssa Marchant '11 (Wakefield, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals to get the Monks on the scoreboard, UNE would rip off 10 unanswered scores to take an insurmountable 16-2 lead early in the second half.  Six different players scored during the spurt.

 

MacDonald added seven assists to her five-goal output to surpass her own school single-game records for assists (6) and total points (11).  Hall's five-goal performance was a career-best. 

 

Amanda Barker '09 (Gloucester, Mass.) and Kate McCarter '11 (Bellingham, Mass.) added three goals apiece for the Nor'easters, who scored on 22 of their 30 shots attempts.  Overall, UNE held a large cushion in shots (30-14), ground balls (31-23) and draw controls (24-5).

 

Marchant scored four of St. Joe's five goals.  Sarah Hale '11 (Berwick, Maine) notched the other one. 

 

Tara Geraghty '11 (Barrington, R.I.) and Jackie Price '10 (Billerica, Mass.) split time in goal for the Nor'easters.  The duo combined for six saves.

 

Jackie Zaccardo '10 (Reading, Mass.) had four saves in 36:08 of playing time for the Monks, while Chynna Nichols '11 (Acushnet, Mass.) made two stops in 23:52.

 

The Nor'easters will head to Wellesley College on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. match.  St. Joe's returns to the field Monday (March 24) with a 3:30 engagement at  Becker College.
