Pilgrims salvage split with 3-1 win in nightcap

New England College scores two runs in the first for all the runs it would need

COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- New England College plated a pair of runs in the first inning and led all the way for a 3-1 win over the University of New England to pick up a split of a college softball doubleheader Friday afternoon.

Alexandra Sacco had a pair of singles for the winners, while Liz Ross plated a run with a double.  Bethany Forshaw came on in the third inning to earn the pitching win.

Megan Gaedje was a repeat hitter for UNE, and Sarah Hamel knocked home the Nor'easters' lone run in the bottom of the first with a single. 

Hamel (1-1) was tagged with the loss.  She surrendered six hits but did not allow any walks.

The Nor'easters (2-2) are now idle until March 26 when they head to Boston to open their conference schedule with a doubleheader at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
