Bridgewater State College opens its season with a 16-12 decision over UNE

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Led by a five-goal performance from midfielder Shannon Manning '10 (Framingham, Mass.), the Bridgewater State College Bears started their season in the win column with a 16-12 women's lacrosse victory over the University of New England on Friday evening.

Lauryn Sarratore ' 08 (Norwood, Mass.) and Courtney Lennon '11 (Medfield, Mass.) contributed three goals apiece for the winners.  Goalie Meghan Griffin '10 (Billerica, Mass.) needed eight saves to record the victory.

For UNE (1-2), midfielder Mallory Long '10 (Lewiston, Maine) tallied a team-high three goals.  Ashley MacDonald '08 (Billerica, Mass.), Kaitlyn Hall (West Lebanon, N.H.) and Amanda Barker (Gloucester, Mass.) each scored twice.  Goalie Tara Geraghty '11 (Barrington, R.I.) registered seven saves.

The Nor'easters return to Maine to face St. Joseph's College in their home-opener Tuesday (March 18).  The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Biddeford but may be moved to Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland, depending on this weekend's weather.
