Katie Diggins came up with a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) to contribute to UNE's win over RWU

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Guard Alli Gamache '09 (Dudley, Mass.) scored 11 of her 14 points in the first half to help the University of New England to a 36-22 advantage, and the Nor'easters maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way for a 66-50 The Commonwealth Coast Conference win over Roger Williams University Saturday afternoon.
The win returns the Nor'easters back over the .500 mark overall (11-10), as well as in conference play (5-4). The host Hawks drop to 9-12, 4-5 in TCCC contests.
With the score tied 7-all early in the game, the Nor'easters proceeded to go on a 16-2 run to claim a 23-9 lead at the 10:33 mark. Gamache scored five points and Chelsey Meszaros '11 (North Clarendon, Vt.) added four during the spurt.
The Nor'easters would shoot 46.2 percent (12 of 26) over the first 20 minutes, compared to 27.6 percent (8 of 29) accuracy for Roger Williams. UNE also utilized a 24-11 rebounding advantage to open up its 14-point halftime lead.
UNE dashed any hopes of a Hawk comeback early in the second frame, outscoring RWU 13-7 over the first five minutes to take a 20-point cushion. The Nor'easters were never threatened the rest of the way.
Gamache added six rebounds and four assists to her 14 points. Lyndie Libby '11 (Buxton, Maine) scored 14 points on 4-for-6 shooting, while Katie Diggins '10 (Merrimack, N.H.) posted a double-double with 12 points and a game-best 11 rebounds.
Casey Anderson '09 (Cohasset, Mass.) paced Roger Williams with 16 points and seven boards. Heather Babin '09 (Danvers, Mass.) came off the bench to pitch in 14 points and six caroms.
UNE returns to action Tuesday (Feb. 12) when its hosts conference-leading Endicott College. Tip-off time at the Campus Center is 6:00 p.m.
