Sara Pelkey had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead UNE to an easy 68-27 win over Gordon

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sara Pelkey '09 (Barre, Vt.) led three University of New England players in double figures with 15 points, and the University of New England held Gordon College to 18.2 percent shooting in a 68-27 The Commonwealth Coast Conference win Wednesday evening at the Campus Center.
The win is the fourth in the last five outings for UNE, which improves to 13-11 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The Fighting Scots now stand at 4-20 overall, 3-9 in league games.
The Nor'easters would put the game away early, jumping out to a 20-4 lead in the opening 6:12. Guard Alli Gamache '09 (Dudley, Mass.) had a pair of 3-pointers and a jumper during that span, and Pelkey finished the run by scoring five consecutive points. UNE led 36-13 at the half.
The second frame would go pretty much the same way, with UNE starting on an 11-5 run to take a 29-point (47-18) cushion at the 15:34 mark. The Fighting Scots made just 4 of 27 (4 of 27) field goal attempts over the final 20 minutes.
Pelkey added eight boards to go with her team-high 15 points. Gamache finished with 14 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals in just 22 minutes, while Marissa Hesketh '08 (Tolland, Conn.) tossed in 11 points.
The Nor'easters shot 42.9 percent (27 of 63) for the contest and held a rebounding margin of 48-33.
Forward Erin Thames '09 (River Vale, N.J.) tallied a game-high 16 points to go with seven boards for the Fighting Scots, who converted 10 of 55 field goal attempts for the game. Gordon misfired on all 13 of its 3-point attempts.
UNE, which has already clinched a playoff spot, plays it regular-season finale on Saturday when it heads to Dudley, Mass. to take on Nichols College. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
The Fighting Scots host Salve Regina University (1:00 p.m.) that same day.
