Box Score
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England guard Alli Gamache '09 (Dudley, Mass.) scored a career-high 21 points, and the Nor'easters led from start-to-finish for a 64-56 win over Endicott College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference game Tuesday evening at the Campus Center.
The win by the Nor'easters (12-10, 6-4 TCCC) handed the Gulls (14-8, 9-1) their first conference loss of the season, and in the process, snapped a six-game losing streak UNE had versus Endicott.
UNE would get out of the gates quickly, establishing an 11-0 lead just 3:09 into the contest. After a lay-up by Ceciley Chisholm '10 (Lexington, Mass.) got the Gulls on the scoreboard, the Nor'easters would score the next five points to go up 16-2.
From there, the Gulls began to chip away, closing the gap to three (25-22) with 2:19 remaining in the half. UNE would settle for a 30-24 halftime cushion.
After UNE opened the second half by scoring the initial six points, Endicott reeled off seven straight to once again get its deficit to three (34-31). A 3-pointer by Gamache and jump shot by Katie Diggins '10 (Merrimack, N.H.) got the hosts' lead back up to eight at 39-31.
The Nor'easters' advantage would fluctuate between eight and 13 until the Gulls got to within seven (57-50) on a Chisholm free throw with 1:58 to play. A crucial 3-pointer by Gamache with 1:08 remaining gave the Nor'easters a 60-50 lead and effectively sealed victory.
Gamache finished with four 3-point field goals and was 5-for-6 at the free throw line. Diggins contributed 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in recording her third straight double-double and seventh of the season. Lyndie Libby '11 (Buxton, Maine) continued her solid play, adding 11 points.
Chisholm had team highs of 17 points and 10 boards for the Gulls. Sara Doherty '08 (Somerville, Mass.) chipped in seven points and nine caroms.
Endicott held a 46-38 rebounding advantage but suffered from 31.7 percent (19 of 60) shooting from the floor. The Gulls had 17 assists on their 19 field goals.
UNE will look to make it four straight wins on Saturday (Feb. 16) when Colby-Sawyer College comes to Biddeford for a 1:00 p.m. contest. Endicott, which saw its seven-game win streak come to an end, will look to regain its winning form when it hosts Salve Regina University that same afternoon. Game time at the Post Center is slated for 3:00 p.m.
