Golf team places second at Southern Maine Cup

The Nor'easters continued their solid season with a second-place finish at the Southern Maine Cup

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine  –  Senior Brent Profenno and Matt Reid combined to shoot an even par 70 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a first-place finish at the 2008 Southern Maine Cup played at Sable Oaks Golf Course Friday afternoon.

The Southern Maine Cup features pairs of golfers playing six holes of best ball followed by six holes of scramble format, and finally six holes of alternate shot golf.

The University of New England Nor'easters placed second in the four-team event with a score of 235, followed by St. Joseph's College (Maine) with a 241.  The University of Maine at Farmington rounded out the scoring in fourth place with a score of 256.  

UNE's Shawn Pabst and Sean Caddigan turned in the second-best round of the day carding a 72.  Nathan Fairfield and Mike Zemrak teamed together to post 78, and Anthony Guarini and Cory Guenette shot 85.

The Nor'easters hit the links again tomorrow at the Sid Farr Classic hosted by Colby College at Waterville Country Club.
