Nor'easters climb over .500 mark in conference play

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior co-captain Nicole Mace (Readfield, Maine) scored two goals and added assist to lead the University of New England to a 6-0 shutout of Regis College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Wednesday evening under the lights.

The win pushes the Nor'easters' overall record to 6-7 while raising their conference mark to 4-3.  The Pride end their season at 1-17 overall, 0-8 in TCCC play.

UNE scored three quick goals to put the game out of reach early.  Senior Kim Anderson (Bowdoin, Maine), junior Taryn Flagg (Livermore Falls, Maine) and sophomore Lauren Broderick (Longmeadow, Mass.) combined to give the Nor'easters a 3-0 first-half advantage.

Mace tallied twice in the second half, and sophomore Cassandra Bushey (North Hartland, Vt.) completed the scoring late in the contest.

The Nor'easters controlled play throughout, holding a commanding 33-1 advantage in shots.  Regis senior goalie Kristen Tavares (Acushnet, Mass.) was busy, recording 13 saves.

UNE returns to action Saturday with a key TCCC home game versus Salve Regina University (1:00 p.m.).
