Nor'easters take a bite out of the Terriers

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Taryn Flagg (Livermore Falls, Maine), sophomore Michaela Franey (York, Maine) and first-year Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) each scored a pair of goals to lead the University of New England to an 8-0 shutout of Thomas College in non-conference field hockey action Thursday afternoon.

The Nor'easters scored three times in the opening 16 minutes on their way to building a 4-0 halftime cushion.  For the match, UNE held an 18-8 lead in shots while both teams were tied in penalty corners (16-16).

Senior Kim Anderson (Bowdoin, Maine) and first-year Brianna Tupper (Winthrop, Maine) also found the scoring column for UNE (3-4).  Flagg added a pair of assists to her two goals for a six-point afternoon.  Goalie Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.) had six saves to earn the victory.

For Thomas (2-7), sophomore Megan Denby registered four stops.

Next up for the Nor'easters is a road contest Saturday at Anna Maria College (11:00 a.m.).  The Terriers are idle until next Thursday (Oct. 9) when they travel to Daniel Webster College.
