Marissa Hesketh's sharp-shooting helps UNE get over the .500 mark in conference play

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Marissa Hesketh '08 (Tolland, Conn.) poured in 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting to lead the University of New England past Anna Maria College, 93-54, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

With the win the Nor'easters stand at 9-8 overall, 3-2 in TCCC play.  The Amcats remain winless in conference games (0-5) and drop to 1-16 overall.

UNE jumped out to a 13-2 advantage just 2:44 into the contest and never looked back.  Alli Gamache '09 (Dudley, Mass.) drained a pair of 3-pointers to help get the hosts going.

Ahead by 15 points (38-23) with 5:29 remaining, the Nor'easters closed the half by scoring the final 12 points to take a 50-23 advantage into the break.  Hesketh scored six points during the spurt, while Anna Maria hurt its cause by committing nine turnovers.  UNE scored 29 points off of 20 Amcat turnovers in the half to help build its 27-point cushion.

A 25-4 run midway through the second half established a 47-point advantage (82-35) for UNE, and the Nor'easters cruised the rest of the way.

Katie Diggins '10 (Merrimack, N.H.) chipped in with 12 points and six boards for UNE, while Gamache finished with 11 points, seven assists and four steals.

Twelve of UNE's 15 players found their way into the scoring column as no one played more than 20 minutes and 12 saw at least 12 minutes of court time.

Emily Nugent '11 (Worcester, Mass.) and Julianna Eagles '10 (Quincy, Mass.) each dropped in 23 points for Anna Maria, which hosts Curry College on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.  Maggie Sielawa '10 (Webster, Mass.) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Nor'easters also take to the court on Thursday, travelling to Regis College for a TCCC contest tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
