Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England guard Marissa Hesketh '08 (Tolland, Conn.) came off the bench to score a game-high 21 points--17 in the first half--to help the Nor'easters to a 69-60 The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's basketball win over Curry College Tuesday evening at the Campus Center.

The win gets the Nor'easters back over the .500 mark at 7-6 and squares their conference record at 1-1.  The Colonels fall to 5-9 overall, 0-2 in TCCC action.

Trailing 50-49 with just over 10 minutes to play, the Nor'easters scored six unanswered points to take the lead for good.  Katie Diggins '10 (Merrimack, N.H.) started the spurt with two free throws then converted a lay-up.  Carrie Bunnell '11 (Barnet, Vt.) knocked down a jump shot to cap the run and give UNE a 55-50 lead with 7:15 on the clock.

Curry would close within one (57-56) three minutes later, but the Nor'easters responded by scoring nine consecutive points to hold off the Colonels' charge.  Four different players scored during that surge.

Hesketh made 7 of 8 shots from the floor to help UNE to a 35-30 halftime advantage.  She finished the evening making 8 of 12 field goal attempts and all five of her tries from the line.  Hesketh added seven rebounds.

Lyndie Libby '11 (Buxton, Maine) scored 11 points in her first collegiate start for the Nor'easters.  Diggins and Chelsey Meszaros '11 (North Clarendon, Vt.) combined to pull down 21 boards.  Diggins' 11 caroms enabled her to reach double digits in six of her last seven contests.

Danyel Cousins '11 (Brunswick, Maine) scored a team-high 11 points for the Colonels.  Christina Sancinito '09 (Wakefield, Mass.) posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out with 4:10 to play.

UNE will travel to Framingham, Mass. on Thursday for a non-conference game versus Framingham State College (6:00 p.m.).  Curry will be seeking its first TCCC win Saturday when it hosts Regis College at 1:00 p.m.
