McBride Rescues Endicott in Overtime; Gulls Take First TCCC Win

Endicott rallies in second half to force OT

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Forward Megan McBride '10 (Saugus, Mass.) came off the bench to score a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime period, to give Endicott College, a hard-fought 3-2 win over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Saturday evening.

The Gulls grab their first conference win to move to 1-2 in TCCC play, 5-2 overall.  UNE falls to 3-5, 2-2 in league play.  The come-from-behind victory also keeps Endicott perfect versus UNE all-time at 5-0.

Endicott would get on the scoreboard just 4:12 in when Joanne Reid '11 (Clarksville, Md.) scored her first collegiate goal.

UNE would respond later in the half.  Kim Anderson '09 (Bowdoin, Maine) scored an unassisted goal at the 25:40 mark, then Heather Laferriere (Veazie, Maine) converted a penalty stroke with 4:06 remaining in the half to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage.

The Gulls were held at bay until 10:25 remained in regulation when McBride found the back of the cage to make the score 2-all.

After the teams played a scoreless 15-minute overtime session, McBride ended the match 1:23 into the second additional period.

Chelsea DeFeo '09 (York, Maine) had 11 saves for the Gulls, who travel to Bridgewater State College for a non-conference match Thursday.

Tanya Callan '08 (Brick, N.J.) came up with eight stops for UNE, which returns to play Tuesday at Lasell College.
