Nor'easters even conference mark at 3-3

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England received goals from three different players, and Cassie Zdrojeski '11 (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) set up all three tallies as the University of New England defeated Eastern Nazarene College, 3-1, Saturday in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action.

The Nor'easters improve to 3-6 on the season, 3-3 in conference matches.  The Crusaders slip to 3-8-1 overall, 1-6-1 in league play.

UNE would control from the outset, but had its difficulties converting numerous scoring opportunities.  The Nor'easters would strike in the 21st minute when Zdrojeski lofted a high corner kick from the right flag.  Lindsey Rowbotham '08 (Minot, Maine) timed the service perfectly and volleyed it into the back of the net.

The hosts held a 20-0 advantage in shots during the first half.

The Crusaders would continue to prevent UNE from extending its lead until the 76th minute when Michelle Epstein '11 (Medway, Mass.) notched her second goal of the season to make the score 2-0.  Zdrojeski and Karlee Hackett '09 (Madison, Conn.) were credited with assists on the scoring play.

UNE made it 3-0 eight minutes later as Hackett converted another corner kick from Zdrojeski for her first goal of the year.

Eastern Nazarene would prevent the shutout with just 2:49 remaining when Danielle Koerrs '09 (Attica, N.Y.) scored her eighth goal of the season.

Despite not having to record any saves, goalkeeper Leigh Engel '10 (Richmondville, N.Y.) earned the victory for the Nor'easters, who held a 33-1 margin in shots and 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Brittany Hardie '09 (Cinnaminson, N.J.) turned aside 11 shots for ENC, which travels to Fitchburg State College for a non-league match Tuesday.

The Nor'easters entertain 2006 NCAA III Sweet Sixteen participant Endicott College on Wednesday.  Game time is 6:30 p.m.
