St. Joe's Takes UNE Invitational; Cotreau Leads Monks

Posting a career-best 75, Tom Button (above) led the Nor'easters to their lowest score since 2002

Nor'easters post lowest team score since 2002 season

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine -- Matt Cotreau '10 (Lunenberg, Mass.) shot an even-par round of 69 to lead the Saint Joseph's College Monks to a five-shot victory at the University of New England Invitational held at Cape Arundel Golf Club Thursday.

The Monks topped runner-up University of Southern Maine by five strokes.  The Nor'easters posted their lowest aggregate score since Oct. 2, 2002 with a total of 306.  Gordon College (329) rounded out the field.

Chris Deroche '08 (Portland, Maine) supported St. Joe's winning effort with a two-over-par round of 71.  Andy LeConte '09 (York, Maine) finished at 76 for the Monks.

Southern Maine earned second place on the strength of consistent play from its top four.  Ben Loss '09 (Wilmette, Ill.) finished at 75, Greg Mitchell '08 (Durham, Maine) 76, while Brent Profenno '09 (Standish, Maine) and Andrew Slattery '11 (West Minot, Maine) each shot 77.

UNE received career rounds from three of its players.  Tom Button '08 (Lyndeborough, N.H.) led the way with a 75.  Tony Guarini '09 (Rutland, Mass.) finished at 76 and Mike Zemrak '09 (Winslow, Maine) topped his career mark with a 79.  Shawn Pabst '09 (Franklin, N.H.) fired a 76 from the number one spot.

Mike Drake had a 75 to lead Gordon.

The Nor'easters return to play Monday (Oct. 1) at the University of Southern Maine Invitational.  Tee-off time is 10:00 a.m. at Sable Oaks Golf Course.
