Mules Rally From 2-0 Deficit to Overtake Nor'easters

Despite her team's 3-2 loss to Colby, Claire Varner '10 (above) had a career-high 16 kills

Colby evens its record at 7-7 with non-conference win

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 win over the University of New England in a non-conference match Monday evening at the Colby College Field House.

The Mules (7-7) would find themselves trailing after dropping the first two games by the scores of 33-31 and 30-25.  Colby won the third game, 30-21, before evening the match by winning the fourth, 30-26.  The hosts took the fifth and deciding game, 15-9.

For the Nor'easters (3-8) Claire Varner '10 (Breckenridge, Mich.) led with way with a career-high 16 kills to go with six digs.  Alex Toregas '08 (Chevy Chase, Md.), who was named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day, posted a double-double with 13 kills and a career-high 13 total blocks.

UNE also received a career-best 11 kills and five total blocks from Kristen Edwards '11 (Laconia, N.H.) and 40 assists from setter Alissa Ehmke '08 (Baileys Harbor, Wisc.).

The Nor'easters, who saw their three-match winning streak come to an end, travel to Boston Wednesday evening for a TCCC match versus Wentworth Institute of Technology.
