UNE rallies in second half to improve to 2-0 in TCCC

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Tri-captain Lisa Baillargeon '08 (Berlin, N.H.) put home a shot from point-blank range, giving the University of New England a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Western New England College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

The win evens the Nor'easters' overall record at 3-3 and improves their conference mark to 2-0.  The Golden Bears are 0-8 overall, 0-1 in league play.

Anne Cowles '10 (Franconia, N.H.) set up the winning score with a rush up the right side.  She centered the ball to Baillargeon, who poked it home past WNEC's goalie.  The program's career scoring leader, Baillargeon picked up her fourth goal of the season and second game-winner.  The winning tally came 10:10 into the second sudden-victory period.

After the two teams played a scoreless first half, the Golden Bears would get on the scoreboard very early in the second frame when Kaela Jalbert '11 (Turner, Maine) converted a pass from Cori Eggert '08 (Denville, N.J.) for her second goal of the year.

The Nor'easters would even things up with just under 10 minutes to play.  After several UNE cracks at the cage, Nicole Mace '09 (Readfield, Maine) drove home a rebound to make the score 1-1.

Ayla Nelson '11 (Auburn, Mass.) recorded six saves for the Nor'easters, who travel to Salve Regina University for a league match Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

Goalie Emilie Donka '08 (White River Junction, Vt.) was busy for WNEC, making 17 stops.  The Golden Bears will be looking for their first win when they host Endicott College on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.).
