Ehmke, Toregas Lead Nor'easters Past Crusaders

UNE improves to 2-0 in conference play

 

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Alissa Ehmke '08 (Baileys Harbor, Wisc.) handed out a season-high 40 assists, and Alex Toregas '08 (Chevy Chase, Md.) took advantage with a career-high 18 kills to lead the University of New England to a 3-0 women's volleyball victory over Eastern Nazarene College Tuesday evening at the Campus Center.

The Nor'easters won for the second straight start to improve to 2-7 overall, 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.  Eastern Nazarene suffered its sixth straight defeat to fall to 2-6, 0-3 in league play.

UNE would get off to a strong start, winning the first game by a score of 30-16.  The Nor'easters continued to surge in the second--taking a 30-18 decision--before being tested (30-26) in the third game. 

Ehmke would record her 40 assists on just 82 setting attempts.  She added six digs and a pair of blocks.  Toregas was charged with just two attack errors in piling up a career high in kills for the second straight match.

Claire Varner '10 (Breckenridge, Mich.) played a strong match for the Big Blue, finishing with eight kills and a team-high 12 digs.  Middle hitter Kristen Edwards '11 (Laconia, N.H.) added a season-high eight kills to go with a pair of blocks.

Cassandra Auguste '11 (Montgomery Village, Md.) led the way for ENC with eight kills and five blocks.  Christina Ludwick '09 (Meredith, N.H.) handed out 16 assists, while Allison Aupperlee '10 (Quincy, Mass.) dug out 17 balls.

UNE will look to make it three in a row Thursday when it travels to Standish to take on Saint Joseph's College (6:00 p.m.).  Eastern Nazarene hosts Emmanuel College that same evening.
