NEWTON, Mass. -- Adam Jensen (Boston, Mass.) converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute, giving the Mount Ida College Mustangs a 2-1 victory over the University of New England in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon.
UNE (1-4) got on the board first on a botched pass by the Mustangs to give Ryan Ogiela '11 (Redding, Conn.) an open lane to feed New England striker Shirwac Hussain–Ali '11 (Auburn, Maine) the open net for the first goal of the game at the 22:02 mark in the first half.
MIC (4-1-1) answered right back with a goal of their own off a corner kick by Brandon Chuba '09 (Wallingford, Conn.) to the head of midfielder Matt Gill (Biddeford, Maine) placing it in the upper left hand corner to tie the game at 1-1 with 16:00 left in the first stanza. The game would go into the half tied.
The second half was back and forth the whole way through until the 75th minute when a Nor'easter defender took a bad bounce off the hand in the box giving the Mustangs a penalty kick. Jensen was the lucky candidate for honors on the kick, rocketing it in the bottom right hand corner for the lead and the win.
MIC goaltender Kevin DosSantos (Cumberland, R.I.) denied six shots, while UNE keeper Derek Poulin '10 (Scarborough, Maine) saved two.
UNE will look to snap its four-game losing streak Saturday, hosting Western New England College at 6:00 p.m.
