DUDLEY, Mass.- Scott Thomas Gruner's (Torrington, Conn.) goal with just 5:30 left to play lifted the Nichols men's soccer team past the University of New England on Saturday in TCCC action. The goal was Gruner's third of the young season as the Bison are now 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference action. The Nor'easters slip to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the TCCC.

After a shaky first half which saw just seven shots combined for both teams, Nichols came alive in the second half, out-shooting UNE 10-6. With the score still tied at zero, the Bison attack came on strong in the final minutes until they were finally able to get one past UNE goalie Derek Poulin '10 (Scarborough, Maine). Freshman Michael Schell (South Windsor, Conn.) found Gruner in front of the net for the game-winner at the 84:30 mark.

Poulin made five saves for UNE while sophomore Clayton Johnson (Williamstown, Mass.) collected two for Nichols. The Bison will be back in action this Wednesday, Sept. 19 when it travels to TCCC foe Roger Williams for a 4 p.m. game. The Nor'easters will travel to Mount Ida on Tuesday, Sept. 18 for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
