GORHAM, Maine - Llia Dunham-Conway '11 (Standish, Maine) headed in a rebound with less than three minutes to play in regulation time to give the University of Southern Maine Huskies a 2-1 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at the USM Soccer Field.

The win was the second straight for the Huskies and leveled their overall record at 2-2-0.  The Nor'easters slipped to 1-2-0.

With time winding down, the Huskies were awarded a free kick just outside the top of penalty area.  Julie Cyr '08 (Standish, Maine) lofted a high shot on goal that UNE goalkeeper Leigh Engel '10(Richmondville, N.Y.) attempted to parry over the crossbar, but the ball hit the bar and rebounded to Dunham-Conway who calmly headed it into the net for her first collegiate goal.  The goal came with 2:43 remaining in regulation.

The Nor'easters had tied the match 10 minutes earlier when Jill Gustafson '08 (South Dennis, Mass.) lofted a 25-yard shot over USM keeper Alison Bradley '09 (Auckland, New Zealand) into the top of the net.

Southern Maine had the edge in play in the first half and came away with the only goal.  Samantha Rennie '08 (Hudson, N.H.) took a pass from Caitlin Brown '09 (Camden, Maine), turned and fired a 15-yard shot at goal.  Engel got a hand on the shot, but was unable to control the rebound which trickled over the goal line in the 29th minute.

Despite the edge in possession favoring USM, the Nor'easters had two good scoring opportunities, but USM starting goalie Mindy Morneault (Winterville, Maine) was able to make the stops.

Morneault played into the 51st minute before leaving the match with an injury.  She had two saves.  Bradley came on and was credited with one save.  Engel finished with three saves.

Both sides will be in conference play in their next match.  Southern Maine opens its Little East Conference slate traveling to Keene State College on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).  UNE will be on the road Saturday (11:00 a.m.) playing at Nichols College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match.
