Amy Williams '08 (above) scored off a penalty corner to lift UNE to a 1-0 win over St. Joe's
STANDISH, Maine -- Tri-captain Amy Williams '07 (Bridgewater, N.H.) scored in the first half to give the University of New England a 1-0 victory over Saint Joseph's College in a non-conference field hockey match Wednesday afternoon.
Williams tallied the game-winner off a penalty corner when her shot from just inside the circle deflected off a St. Joe's defender and into the back of the cage.
The Monks (3-1) held a 13-6 advantage in shots, while both teams had eight penalty corners.
UNE's Tanya Callan (Brick, N.J.) was strong in goal, turning away eight shots to earn her second shutout. The Nor'easters play host to Regis College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
Kathleen Simoes '11 (Wakefield, Mass.) had three saves for St. Joe's.
