Golf Team Opens Season 7th at Thomas Invitational

St. Joe's places first on rainy day at Waterville CC

WATERVILLE, Maine -- On the strength of three players carding a score of 75 or better, Saint Joseph's College posted a team mark of 307 to capture the Thomas College Invitational on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Waterville Country Club.

The University of New England finished at 347 to place seventh out of a field of nine squads.

Matt Cotreau had a 74, while Chris DeRoche and Francois Renaud added 75's for the Monks, who topped second-place Husson College (313) by six strokes.  Bowdoin College, led by medalist Ryan Blossom, placed third with a score of 322.  Blossom earned top individual honors with a one-over-par 71.

Cory Guenette '09 (Acushnet, Mass.) was the low UNE player at 85.  Tom Button '08 (Lyndeborough, N.H.) carded a 86, Travis Deabay '11 (Millinocket, Maine) 87, Shawn Pabst '09 (Franklin, N.H.) 89, and Mike Zemrak '09 (Winslow, Maine) 96.

The Nor'easters will participate in the two-day State of Maine Championship this Friday and Saturday at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro, Maine.
