SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Kristen Edwards '11 (Laconia, N.H.) and Alex Toregas '08 (Chevy Chase, Md.) combined for 14 kills and five blocks, but the University of New England fell to 0-3 on the season with a 25-30, 24-30, 25-30 loss to Rhode Island College Saturday afternoon at the Springfield College Invitational.
Edwards posted eight put-aways and added three solo blocks for the Nor'easters. Toregas wrapped up a steady effort at the tourney with six kills and two rejections. She was chosen for the all-tournament team.
Josie Raphaelito '09 (Pine Hill, N.M.) came off the bench to hand out 12 assists for UNE, while libero Angela Cicia '08 (Sunderland, Mass.) was credited with four service aces.
UNE is idle until next Saturday when it travels to Bristol, R.I. for the Roger Williams University Invitational.
