AUBURNDALE, Mass. -- The University of New England limited Lasell College to 23.3 percent shooting from the floor and held a 58-39 rebounding advantage on its way to a 62-45 non-conference women's basketball win Thursday evening.
Winners of two straight, the Nor'easters improve 2-3. The Lasers fall to 1-3. It was the first-ever meeting between UNE and Lasell.
Lasell made just 7 of 36 (19.4 percent) field goal attempts in the first half to fall behind 34-19. The Nor'easters shot a solid 45.5 percent (15 of 33) from the floor to help build their lead.
Sara Pelkey '09 (Barre, Vt.) scored 16 points and added nine rebounds to pace UNE. Katie Diggins '10 (Merrimack, N.H.) and Chelsey Meszaros '11 (North Clarendon, Vt.) each scored seven points to help support a balanced scoring attack. Diggins pulled down a game-high 13 boards. Kylie Bragdon '11 (Winter Harbor, Maine) chipped in 10 rebounds and four blocked shots in 17 minutes of floor time.
Christina DeLuca '08 (Johnston, R.I.) was the lone Lasell player in double figures, scoring 11. The Lasers generated 24 UNE turnovers but could not overcome their shooting woes.
The Nor'easters will look to get to the .500 mark Saturday when they head to Waterville for a non-conference game versus Thomas College. Start time is 1:00 p.m.
