WATERVILLE, Maine -- Matt Thompson '11 (Plymouth, N.H.) was one of five players in double figures with a game-high 19 points, as the University of New England improved to 2-0 with an 87-41 win over Fisher College at the Charlie Ryan Classic hosted by Thomas College.
For the second straight contest, the Nor'easters came out firing in the first half, racking up 49 points thanks in large part to 51.7 percent (15 of 29) shooting from the floor. Johnnie Jefferson '09 (Dallas, Texas) buried four 3-pointers on his way to 16 first-half points. UNE also took advantage of some accurate shooting at the free throw line, converting 15 of 18 attempts.
The Nor'easters would hold Fisher to just 14 second-half points on 17.9 percent (7 of 39) field goal accuracy. UNE utlized a 23-8 run over the opening 10 minutes of the second frame to put the game out of reach.
Thompson was 5 of 8 from the floor and 6 of 6 from the line for his game-high 19 points. Jefferson ended the afternoon with 18 points and a game-best nine rebounds.
Other UNE players in double figures included Isaac Stickney '08 (Rumford, Maine) with 15 to go with seven boards, Chas Rentrope '11 (Peoria, Ariz.) who tallied 13 points, and Steve Belmonte '09 (Levittown, N.Y.) with 10 points and eight caroms.
Treva Holmes '10 (Dorchester, Mass.) came off the bench to score seven points and lead the Falcons (1-6).
The Nor'easters will travel to Brunswick on Tuesday to face Bowdoin College for non-conference matchup tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
