O'Gorman Provides Spark as Hawks Down UNE, 2-0

UNE dropped to 3-5 in conference play after being shut out by Roger Williams Saturday afternoon

Roger Williams improves to 7-2 in conference play

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kristen O'Gorman '09 (Tyngsboro, Mass.) had a goal and an assist to help the Roger Williams University Hawks to a 2-0 shutout over the University of New England Nor'easters in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer play Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks (9-3, 7-2 TCCC) have now won five of their last six.  UNE (3-8, 3-5) suffered its fifth defeat in its last six starts.

Neither team would have many quality scoring opportunities in the early going, with much of the play coming in the midfield.

The Hawks finally broke the ice in the 33rd minute when O'Gorman scooped up a loose ball and drilled home a shot from 12 yards out.  A Roger Williams player had crossed the ball from the left flank and UNE keeper Leigh Engel '10 (Richmondville, N.Y.) came off her line and deflected it.

O'Gorman would later set up Amanda daCunha '10 (Wethersfield, Conn.), who notched an insurance goal with just under one minute to play.

The Roger Williams defense really limited UNE's chances the entire afternoon, holding the Nor'easters to just four shots on goal.  Jenny Schermerhorn '10 (Sherborn, Mass.) stopped all four to register the shutout.

The Hawks will look to continue their winning ways Monday in a non-conference match at Rhode Island College.

Engel had four saves for the Nor'easters, who host Curry College Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
