SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine -- Brent Profenno '09 (Standish, Maine) and freshman Andrew Slattery '11 (West Minot, Maine) combined to shoot a three-under-par 67 to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a first-place finish at the 2007 Southern Maine Cup played at Sable Oaks Golf Course in South Portland Friday afternoon.
The Southern Maine Cup feature pairs of golfers playing six holes of best ball, followed by six holes of scramble format and finally six holes of alternate shot golf.
St. Joseph's College placed second with 222 and was followed by UMaine Farmington and the University of New England in a two-way tie for third place with 224. Thomas College rounded out the scoring with a 226.
Cory Guenette '09 (Acushnet, Mass.) and Tony Guarini '09 (Rutland, Mass.) were the low UNE duo, posting a one-over 71. Tom Button '08 (Lyndeborough, N.H.) and Shawn Pabst '09 (Franklin, N.H.) recorded a 73.
The Nor'easters have a long layoff until their final match of the season--The Commonwealth Coast Conference Invitational on Oct. 18.
