Hawks Bounce Nor'easters from Conference Tournament

Dolan, Dion power Roger Williams to TCCC semifinals

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kristina Dolan '10 (Glenmont, N.Y.) had a match-high 14 kills and Rebekah Dion '11 (Old Saybrook, Conn.) contributed 11 to go with five total blocks as No. 5 Roger Williams University took down No. 4 University of New England in opening-round action of The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament Tuesday evening at the Campus Center.

The Hawks (18-14) advance to play top-seeded Endicott College, a 3-1 winner over Eastern Nazarene College, in one semifinal match slated for Thursday (Nov. 1).  Second-seeded Colby-Sawyer College will host No. 3 Gordon College in the other semifinal.

Trailing 12-11 in game one, the Hawks seized momentum on a spectacular dig by reserve Brianne Nicklaw '08 (Agawam, Mass.).  From there, Roger Williams would build a solid eight-point lead on its way to a 30-26 win.

The Nor'easters would respond by taking game two by the score of 30-26.  UNE fell behind 25-21 but won win nine of the final 10 points to square the match.

Dolan keyed a pivotal run for the Hawks in game three, helping them stretch an 18-14 advantange into a 21-14 lead by winning three straight points.

Roger Williams rode the strong play of Amy Maurer '08 (Madbury, N.H.) to win game four.  With the score tied at 23-all, Maurer came up with an emphatic spike to give the Hawks the lead for good, then she would later account for two more points to help close out the match.

Kirsten Bosworth '09 (Centerville, Mass.) set up the Hawks' attack with 40 assists and also added five service aces.  Defensively, Eileen O'Leary '11 (Southington, Conn.) led the way with 21 digs.

Claire Varner '10 (Breckenridge, Mich.) posted a double-double with 13 kills and a career-best 24 digs for the Nor'easters (12-14).  Ellen Choinski '10 (Saunderstown, R.I.) chipped in 12 kills and 16 digs.  Josie Raphaelito '09 (Pine Hill, N.M.) was credited with seven service aces, while Alissa Ehmke '08 (Baileys Harbor, Wisc.) added 31 assists.
