BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Led by the one-two punch of juniors Kevin Clark (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Alex Parulis (East Lyme, Conn.), the Roger Williams University Hawks captured the 2007 The Commonwealth Coast Conference Men's Cross Country Championship Saturday afternoon at Rotary Park.
Clark, who later in the day was named TCCC Runner of the Year, circled the 8,000-meter course in a time of 27:14 to win the event for the second consecutive year. Parulis posted a time of 27:57 to finish second for the Hawks, who totaled 30 points to best Gordon College (44 points). The University of New England was third with a score of 65.
UNE's #Matt Veiga# '11 (Lynn, Mass.) placed third with a time of 28:08, and in the process, earned TCCC Rookie of the Year honors. Roger Williams junior Tom Maybury (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished fourth, while freshman Dan Gaunya (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) grabbed fifth place.
Rounding out the Top 10 places, as well as the all-conference team, were: sophomore Tucker Jones (Bowdoin, Maine) of Western New England College, sophomore Ben McGrath (Doylestown, Pa.) of Gordon, #Josh Havelin# '11 (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) of UNE, freshman Andrew Worth (Gales Ferry, Conn.) of Gordon, and freshman Jonathan Ellis (Yonkers, N.Y.) of Roger Williams.
Sean Livingston of Roger Williams and John Molvar of Gordon were voted co-Coach of the Year winners, while Endicott College and Gordon shared the Team Sportsmanship Award. University of New England's #Sam Powell# '08 (China, Maine) was chosen Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Besides the strong performances by Veiga and Havelin, the Nor'easters were buoyed by Top 20 performances by Powell and #Devin Flawd# '11 (Lancaster, Pa.).
