BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Forward Dylan Saucier '10 (Windham. Maine) broke a 1-1 tie in the 76th minute, and Gui Barbosa '08 (Saco, Maine) and Josh Pouliot '08 (Attleboro, Mass.) combined to register seven points in their final home game to help give the University of New England a 3-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over Newbury College Monday evening.

The win was the third in the last four outings for the Nor'easters (6-9-1), whose six wins are the most for the program since the 1999 season.  Newbury drops to 5-10.

Barbosa got the hosts on the board early, tallying an unassisted goal in the seventh minute.  He got free behind the Nighthawk defense and lobbed a shot over the head of Newbury goalkeeper Brian Picanco '09 (Lowell, Mass.), who had come off his line.

That would be all the first-half scoring, as Newbury hit the crossbar on one of its few quality scoring opportunities in the frame.  UNE led 9-4 in shots over the opening 45 minutes.

The Nighthawks evened things in the 65th minute when one of their players was taken down in the box.  Chad D'Ancona '08 (Wantage, N.J.) converted the penalty kick to tie the match at 1-all.

Saucier netted the game-winner 11 minutes later, collecting a nifty pass from Barbosa and deposting a left-footed shot into the right side of the goal.  Barbosa would set up Pouliot for an insurance goal in the 88th minute to conclude the scoring.

Reserve goalkeeper Matt Cribbin '08 (Madison, Conn.) made the start for UNE, stopping seven shots for his first collegiate victory.

The Nor'easters, who have qualified for The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament, will play  Saturday at either Roger Williams University, Wentworth Institute of Technology or Western New England College.

Picanco made four saves for Newbury, which travels to Mitchell College Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. game.
