NEWPORT, R.I. -- Jason Marks '11 (East Lyme, Conn.) scored with 48 seconds left in the final overtime period to give the University of New England a hard-fought 1-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Salve Regina University Saturday afternoon.

The win clinches a playoff berth for the Nor'easters (5-9-1, 4-7-1 TCCC), who last made the conference tournament in 2000.  The Seahawks (5-7-1, 3-7-1) were eliminated from contention for the TCCC Tournament.

The teams played 90 minutes of scoreless soccer in regulation, then a 10-minute first overtime period.  The match appeared as if it was going to end in a scoreless draw before Josh Pouliot '08 (Attleboro, Mass.) found Marks, who directed a low shot just inside the right post for his second game-winning goal in the last three matches.

Despite having a slight advantage in total shots (19-17), the Nor'easters directed twice as many on goal (10-5).  Derek Poulin '10 (Scarborough, Maine) made five saves for his third shutout.

UNE, which concludes its regular season Monday with a home match versus Newbury College (5:00 p.m.), will be seeded eighth for The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.  The Nor'easters will be headed to either Roger Williams University or Wentworth Institute of Technology next Saturday (Oct. 27).

Kurt Ginthwain '10 (Tolland, Conn.) came up with nine saves for Salve.
