AUBURNDALE, Mass. -- The Lasell College Lasers knocked home a pair of penalty strokes and allowed no University of New England attempts to find the cage for a 2-1 penalty stroke victory in non-conference field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.
Lasell (3-8) snapped a four-match losing streak, while the Nor'easters (3-6) suffered their third consecutive setback.
After playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation and a pair of scoreless 15-minute overtime periods, the two teams each received five penalty strokes to break the tie. Tia Pratt '11 (South Paris, Maine) would open the tie-breaker by lifting a shot to the upper right-hand corner of the cage, giving Lasell a 1-0 advantage in strokes.
The two teams would fail to convert on five straight opportunities before Stephanie Jansen '09 (Conway, N.H.) was successful to give the Lasers a 2-0 lead in strokes.
The Nor'easters were denied on their fourth attempt, sealing victory for the hosts.
Kaitlyn Hall '09 (West Lebanon, N.H.) notched her first goal of the season early in the second half to give UNE a 1-0 advantage.
Lasell goaltender Laura Gallagher '08 (Westwood, Mass.) stopped a UNE stroke several minutes later, and the Lasers would use that save to gain momentum.
Lasell tied it midway through the frame when Megan DeAndrade '10 (New Bedford, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal.
UNE will look to snap its losing streak Saturday in a TCCC road match at Gordon College. Start time is 11:00 a.m.
