Nor'easters Move to 5-1 in Conference Play

The Nor'easters had plenty to celebrate Tuesday evening, rolling to a 3-0 win over Anna Maria

UNE dominates Anna Maria, 3-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- In The Commonwealth Coast Conference volleyball action at the Campus Center, the University of New England Nor'easters racked up 28 services aces and cruised to a 30-5, 30-6, 30-11 victory over Anna Maria College on Tuesday evening.

The Nor'easters--winners of six of their last eight--up their TCCC mark to 5-1 and are 6-9 overall.  The Amcats (0-6 TCC) are winless in 10 matches.

UNE would take quick 10-1 lead in game one and never look back.  The Nor'easters had 10 aces in the opening game, a constant theme the entire match.

Claire Varner '10 (Breckenridge, Mich.) had six kills, six aces and seven digs for UNE.  Alex Toregas '08 (Chevy Chase, Md.) contributed seven kills and five solo blocks, while Ellen Choinski '10 (Saunderstown, R.I.) had eight aces.  Defensively, Chelsea Boyle '11 (Cumberland, R.I.) led the way by digging out nine balls.

UNE heads to Bates College this Saturday (Oct. 6) for the Maine Mid-Coast Classic.  The Nor'easters will play Emmanuel College at 10:00 a.m. and Brandeis University at 2:00 p.m.

Anna Maria hosts Newbury College and Lasell College that same day.
