NEW LONDON, N.H. – The University of New England's Amanda Smith '08 (Londonderry, N.H.) and Cassie Zdrojeski '11 (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) each netted a pair of goals, and Caitlin Mason (Gray, Maine) added one more as the Nor'easters blew past the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer, 5-3, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

The Nor'easters got on the board early as Smith netted her fourth goal of the season just six minutes in, giving UNE the early 1-0 lead.  Smith struck again for UNE just five minutes later, beating Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Christina Quirk (Milford, Conn.) for the games second score.

Zdrojeski added her third goal of the season at the games thirty minute mark, putting UNE on top 3-0.  Just before the half, Mason added what proved to be the game winner, sneaking a goal past back-up keeper Kara Walker (Westford, Vt.), putting UNE on top 4-0 at the halftime break.

In the second half the Charger offense came alive, as Phoebe Wolcott-Macausland (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) netted three goals, but it was to little too late as Zdrojeski  added UNE's fifth and final goal to seal the victory for the Nor'easters.

UNE goalkeeper Leigh Engel '10 (Richmondville, N.Y.) tallied four saves and did not allow a goal in 55 minutes of work.  Reserve Beth Ehmann '11 (Ludlow, Vt.) made two saves and allowed three goals.

Quirk did not make a save and allowed three goals in the loss for the Chargers, while Walker made four saves in 36 minutes of work.

Colby-Sawyer (6-8-2, 4-6-1 TCCC) now falls to ninth place in the conference standings with two games remaining.  The top eight teams from the 14 member conference qualify for the conference tournament.

The Chargers will face Regis College on Saturday, October 20 at 1 p.m. in Weston Mass.

UNE improves to 5-9-1 overall, 5-6-1 in TCCC play and moves into sole possession of seventh place in the conference standings.  The Nor'easters wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Newport, R.I. for a match-up with the Seahawks of Salve Regina.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
