Pigrims Keep Hold of Second Place with 3-1 Win

Ayotte scores in each half to help propel hosts

HENNIKER, N.H. -- Forward Marisa Ayotte '11 (Feeding Hills, Mass.) had two goals--one in each half--to help the New England College Pilgrims to a 3-1 victory over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon.

The win improves the Pilgrims' overall mark to 9-6, and keeps them in second place in the conference standings at 5-1.  UNE is 4-8 overall, 3-4 in league play.

Ayotte got the hosts on the board early, scoring just 3:39 in for her ninth goal of the season.  NEC would make it 2-0 toward the end of the half when Jodie Dresser '09 (Keene, N.H.) notched her fourth tally of the year.

Dresser would set up Ayotte 16:33 into the second half to give New England College a 3-0 advantage.

The Nor'easters prevented a shutout with just over 10 minutes to play when Amy Williams '08 (Bridgewater, N.H.) notched an unassisted goal.

Mary Roux '10 (Auburn, Mass.) needed three saves to record the victory for NEC.  Her counterpart, Ayla Nelson '11 (Auburn, Mass.) stopped 13 shots.

The Nor'easters will travel to the University of Maine Farmington Tuesday for a non-conference match beginning at 3:30 p.m.
