Polar Bears Take Third Straight State Championship

UNE placed sixth out of nine teams at the State of Maine Intercollegiate Championship

Second and third-place finishes key Bowdoin's victory

GRAY, Maine -- The Bowdoin College men's cross country team claimed its third consecutive state championship, defeating second-place University of Southern Maine and the rest of the field at the 2007 State of Maine Intercollegiate Championship at Pineland Farms on Saturday.

The Polar Bears, who saw Nate Krah and John Hall place second and third, posted a team total of 30 to down Southern Maine by 13 points.  The University of New England Nor'easters accumulated 179 points to finish sixth in the field of nine teams.

#Matt Veiga# '11 (Lynn, Mass.) was 30th overall with a time of 28:00 flat over the five-mile course.  #Josh Havelin# '11 (Seneca Falls, N.Y.), #Sam Powell# '08 (China, Maine) and #Dan Kelleher# '11 (Norton, Mass.) each broke the 30:00 barrier for UNE. 

Up next for the Nor'easters is The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship to be held Oct. 27 at Rotary Park in Biddeford.
